Surface web sites and data bases

This is one of several files containing lists of web-based resources for use in connection with my graduate courses, web-based articles and talks. If you have items you would like me to add, please email me. However, I am aiming to be exemplary rather than comprehensive, so please don't be offended if I leave material out. UK-based sources of information

The Thin Films and Surfaces group of the Institute of Physics links to the most recent TFSG newsletter and a (rather out of date) listing of Conferences of interest to group members and others in the field.
The UK ESCA and the SIMS user groups have now merged to produce the Surface analysis forum. This includes a comprehensive list of acronyms, a list of web courses, and (below on the same page, bravely) a list of 'tutorials' on individual topics, abstracted from these courses.
Links at Queen Mary College, London, which includes research groups and teaching resources.

USA-based sources of information

There are lists of meetings available via the American Chemical Society, the American Physical Society, the American Vacuum Society and the Materials Research Society, all of which have strong interests in Surfaces and Thin Films.
The NIST databases include the NIST surface structure database and databases on AES and XPS accessible through my Experimental Groups -mostly not STM page.
The SIMS Workshop organization.
The Reciprocal Net organization, a crystallography collaboration that includes the Common Molecules collection.

Other information sources

The NIST surface structure database is now commercially available, but pre-commercial versions can be inspected at Klaus Hermann's Surface explorer site in Germany and his groups's surface structure gallery. This gallery includes several surface structures in color, including the famous Si(111)7x7.
With the migration of Alex Bradshaw to become the Director of the MPI für Plasmaphysik (IPP), Garching, the Department of Surface Physics at the Fritz-Haber Institute, Berlin Germany, has now become the department of Molecular Physics, while still maintaining a strong interest in surfaces. The site, now like several others, includes project descriptions and a reference list.
Links to SPM/STM web pages can be obtained from this site or via large data bases maintained by Stephan Altmann in Germany (now a bit out of date) and the International Field Emission Society in Japan.
