After the first output from these models is obtained and 'cleaned up', a set of experimental data (S. Calisti, J. Suzanne and J.A. Venables, Surface Sci. 115 (1982) 455-468) will be used to check the validity of the data. Although an exact match between theory and the actual experiment can not be expected at this stage, the experimental data provides a significant base for comparison, and we intend to develop this aspect further, perhaps developing interactive programs to play with the parameters on-line.
One such aim is to include the Novaco-McTague energy, which orients the neon monolayer with respect to the graphite lattice, and to see whether we can display graphically the results of L.W. Bruch and co-workers (L.W. Bruch, J.M. Phillips and X-Z. Ni, Surface Sci. 136 (1984) 361 and refs quoted).
